Winter Sports Sign-Ups Are Here—Snow Leopards Prepare to Pounce! 🐾

Anchorage, Alaska — As temperatures drop and daylight hours shrink to “blink and you’ll miss it,” Begich Middle School students are charging toward winter sports sign-ups with the speed, grace, and occasional clumsiness of our mighty mascot—the Snow Leopard.

This year’s lineup? Girls Basketball, Cross Country Skiing, and Wrestling—a trifecta of athletic glory, competitive spirit, and guaranteed fun (plus the possibility of snow down your jacket).

Girls Basketball: Snow Leopards Hit the Court

The Girls Basketball team is calling all hoop-shooters, sneaker-squeakers, and anyone who’s ever sunk a shot in P.E. and yelled, “I could totally make the team!”
Practices include teamwork, skill-building, and resisting the urge to shout “I BELIEVE I CAN FLY” every time you jump for a rebound. Rumor has it the coaches will accept raw enthusiasm, provided the player promises not to dribble like they’re bouncing a bowling ball.

Cross Country Skiing: Glide Like a Snow Leopard (Who Forgot It’s Not Supposed to Ski)

For those who love the great outdoors—even when it's 12 degrees and dark enough to question if the sun still exists—Cross Country Skiing is ready for you!
Expect scenic trails, amazing workouts, and the occasional moment of “Why are my legs doing this to me?” Skiers will learn to glide, climb hills, and stay upright—at least most of the time. (Falling is considered a rite of passage. Bonus points for dramatic flair.)

Wrestling: Fierce, Focused, and Full of Snow Leopard Energy

If you’ve ever wanted to channel your inner Snow Leopard and pounce into action, Wrestling is your sport.
It’s strength, strategy, self-discipline, and learning cool moves you cannot use on your siblings—seriously, the coaches were very clear about that. Wrestlers will practice takedowns, techniques, and how to slap the mat with confidence and dramatic intensity worthy of a movie slow-motion scene.

How to Join the Winter Fun

Sign-ups are officially open now!

Interscholastic Sport Fee: $110.00 (Payable through Parent Connect or by cash or check to the Activity Clerk). Financial hardship waiver forms may be submitted to the Activity Clerk.

  Online payment of fees can be made using the Parent Connect student information system.

All participants are required to have a current physical on file with the Activity Clerk and submit a completed Activity Participation Form.  The Anchorage School Based Health Clinic provided onsite physicals to students who have consent or provide a completed ASBHC packet for consideration.
